Late afternoon (2)

Legs restless, flexed brow, moaning, and heart rate increasing; he is having an acute pain spell. These are more common today as the strong surgical sedatives have worn off and his body is adjusting to the new pressures from his plumbing changes. This causes some swelling around his heart and lungs. He gets a few pain medicines but still has some pain spikes. Nothing can replace Dr. Mom's comfort.
Despite this, Noah is reaching his goals. We are down to 1 cardiac stimulating IV medicine. It is planned to stop tomorrow am. One chest tube is also planned for removal tomorrow along with some monitoring IV lines in his heart. He has nibbled on some solid foods for lunch (roll, chicken, and mash potatoes). After that he rested watching a movie with mom. He really wants her to hold him and he does not understand why she can not. He has been getting irritated with his oxygen cannula, forehead thermometer, and arm board. We were able to remove his thermometer but he still needs the oxygen.
At dinner I was able to feed him several bites of mac and cheese, a little dessert, some of his roll, and milk.
He has been stable and dealing with the standard things for a Fontan procedure. Hopefully we will get out of the ICU tomorrow. The Drs. will evaluate this possibility tomorrow around noon. We wanted today, but are happy for the daily progression.
