This little lion continues to be a strong cub. He has slept well with little pain. His appetite is growing; whenever he wakes up he is asking for food. We put in a stat order for crackers to be tubed to the ICU to feed this animal. It was a nice treat for him as we changed his dressings. By the way, that went 100% better this time. We have started the NG feeds, which are going well. This also allows us to give oral meds through the tube so he does not have to taste them. He despises the stool softener! He will take all of the others and say, "thats not the yucky one!"
He is complaining about his urinary catheter so the RN put in a request for its removal. Today his atrial line gets removed and we get to stop his IV blood thinner. Removal of this line is 1 step closer to being able to hold him and get him out of bed.
Unofficially, his chest tube drainage HAS DECREASED! I am interested in his chest x-ray results since the drain setting was changed to no suction. The 1am chest x-ray did startle him. To wake up and see this big machine over you and a board shoved under your back. I know you are thinking why so late? Actually this was a better than the prior 2 nights (2am and 3am). Hospitals have their own time zones. I want to hear no fluid is collecting. His vitals signs and physical exam do not indicate fluid collecting. Thank you all for your continued support.
